Waste

  • Prepared of a detailed activity plan and necessary background information on selected waste management issues.
  • Conducted a national level focus group session to provide further direction and focus for information management and capacity building.
  • Organised EU-India Workshops on E-waste and contaminated sites, 2 and 3 February 2010.
  • Prepared a status report on Ship Dismantling in South Asia
  • Supported the EU-India Environment Forum on E-waste, 21 October 2010.
  • Conducted policy development on E-waste.
  •  Remediation for contaminated sites: suitably adapting EU policy and regulation to the situation in India (particularly from the EU member states).
  •  Study tour on E-waste to the EU

 

 Chemicals

  • Prepared a detailed activity plan and necessary background information on the chemicals sector in India and internationally.
  • Convened 2 focus group of key stakeholders to provide up-to-date insight in the barriers to effective chemicals management, and to give further direction for activities and focus of workshops.
  • Trained trainers for MoEF personnel and state pollution control officials on international and European legislation (e.g. Stockholm-, Rotterdam-, Basel Conventions, SAICM, and REACH) as a contribution to framing national chemicals management policies and also build capacities by carrying out training within and outside their offices.
  • Convened a meeting to consider feasibility of and need for an inventory of chemicals in India based on the European experience.
  • Provided advice on risk assessment and on the mutual acceptance of data in the chemicals sector, leading to specification and preparation of practical guides or manuals on management of chemicals.
  • Prepared a short paper on what elements in REACH may be useful for India.
  • Conduct a travelling seminar (road show) to improve awareness of chemicals management and health impacts in Nagpur, Ahmedabad and Lucknow. 
  • Train trainers for MoEF personnel and state pollution control officials on international and European legislation as a contribution to framing national chemicals management policies and also build capacities by carrying out trainings within and outside their offices.
